Union Home Minister Amit Shah slams the opposition to the CAA
New Delhi – Union Home Minister Amit Shah has commented on the ongoing politics over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Countering the Opposition’s attack on the timing of implementing the law, he said, “All Opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee or Arvind Kejriwal, are indulging in ‘politics of lies’. Therefore, the question of timing does not arise. BJP made it clear in its 2019 manifesto that it will bring CAA and provide Indian citizenship to refugees from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
Reacting to Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s vehement opposition to the CAA, Amit Shah slammed her Government for not taking steps to stop intrusion in the State.
“The day is not far when BJP will come to power there (Bengal) and stop the intrusion. If you do this kind of politics and with such an important national security issue, you allow intrusion by doing appeasement politics and oppose the refugees from getting citizenship, then people will not be with you. Mamata Banerjee does not know the difference between a person taking refuge and an intruder,” he said. ‘I appeal to them, please do not oppose Bengali Hindus coming from Bangladesh. You are Bengali too !’ The Home Minister was speaking in an interview given to ANI news agency.
On AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi calling CAA “Anti-Muslim”, the home minister said, “What is his logic ? There cannot be religious oppression of Muslims because Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh are declared Islamic states. There is no provision for NRC in this law. There is no provision in this law to take anyone’s citizenship.”
What did the Home Minister say about citizenship through CAA ?
Those who acquire citizenship under the CAA will be included in the list of Indians with honour like other citizens of India. They will have all the same rights as we citizens. They can also contest elections and can also become MLAs, MPs and Ministers.

1. Jan Sangh has always opposed the partition !
“You cannot see this law in isolation. On 15th August 1947, our country was partitioned into three parts. This is the background. Bharatiya Jan Sangh and BJP were always against the Partition. We never wanted the country to be partitioned based on religion,” he said. “So when the country was partitioned based on religion, minorities faced persecution, they were being converted, women in the minority section were being tortured and came to India. They came to our refuge; don’t they have a right to get our citizenship ?”
2. Congress betrayed Hindus !
Even Congress leaders during the partition in their speeches said, ‘Those minorities should stay wherever they are due to the widespread bloodshed and they will be welcomed later in our country. Then they started doing vote bank politics for appeasement. Congress has never fulfilled the promise given to Hindus!”, he said.
3. Due to the plight of every country, it is impractical to give citizenship to the people there !
Only for the Muslim population, Akhand India was partitioned and a separate country was given to them. If citizenship is thought to be given to them too, India’s doors will have to be opened for its people due to the plight of each country. I believe that it is our moral duty to surrender to those who were part of Akhand India and who suffered religious persecution.
4. Where did all the Hindus from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan go ?
Pakistan: At the time of partition, Pakistan had 23% Hindus and Sikhs. Today 3.7% remains.
Bangladesh: In the year 1951, the proportion of Hindus in Bangladesh was 22%, in the census of the year 2011, it remained at 10%.
Afghanistan: Before 1992, there were about 2,00,000 Sikhs and Hindus. Today there are only about 500 left.
Where did they all go ? They were converted. They were treated as second-class citizens and humiliated. Where will these people go ? Will the country not think about it ? Don’t these people have the right to live their lives according to their beliefs ? When India was united, they all belonged to us. If this principle is to be maintained, then why so many refugees were kept in the country after partition ? Then it doesn’t make any sense either.
5. Why doesn’t Kejriwal talk about Rohingya and Bangladeshi intruders ?
Arvind Kejriwal this week reiterated his earlier remarks on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) stating that more migration will now take place than what happened after Independence. He further claimed that law and order will collapse and subsequently lead to a rise in thefts, robberies, and rapes. In an interview with ANI, Amit Shah said, “The Delhi Chief Minister has lost his temper after his party’s alleged corruption got exposed. He (Kejriwal) is unaware that all these people have already taken refuge in our country. They are living in India. Those who arrived in our country by 2014 will get citizenship and if he is concerned, why does he not talk about Bangladeshi infiltrators ? Why does he not protest against Rohingyas ?” Shah said.
Minorities of India need not worry !Stressing that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is not against Muslims, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has accused the Opposition parties of resorting to “politics of lies”. “I have spoken on CAA at least 41 times on different platforms and spoken in detail that the minorities of the country need not be afraid because it has no provision to take back the rights of any citizen,” Mr Shah told in an interview. |
Answer to foreign media !Amit Shah said, “Ask the foreign media – Is there triple talaq in their country ? Does their country have a ‘Muslim Personal Law’ ? Is there a provision like Article 370 in one of the states in their country ?” |
