India has been at the forefront of years-long efforts to reform the Security Council, saying it rightly deserves a place as a permanent member at the UN high-table, which in its current form does not represent the geo-political realities of the 21st Century. Kamboj added that in 2000, world leaders resolved to intensify efforts to bring about comprehensive reforms in all aspects of the Security Council. Now next year is the 80th anniversary of the United Nations and an important summit will be held in September 2024. In such cases these necessary amendments should be made.

The United Kingdom, a permanent member of the Council, also posted on X supporting India’s reform suggestions. The Security Council should be representative of today’s world.
