Unknown miscreants vandalise 14 Idols in a Shiva Temple in Ludhiana (Punjab)

Ludhiana (Punjab) – A Shiva Temple located on the Delhi National Highway near the Sahnewal city in Ludhiana District was vandalised by unknown miscreants. 14 Idols including a Shivalinga were broken. The incident took place at the midnight of 26th February. The next morning when the pujari came to the temple to perform puja, he saw the vandalised temple and Idols. Police have registered a crime and began the investigation. The administration has urged people to maintain peace. Hindu organisations have given the Police 72 hours to find the culprits.

1. There were no CCTV installed in the temple; so, it was not possible to identify the miscreants. The Police are examining the footage of nearby CCTVs and trying to search for the culprits.

2. Commenting about the incident, local Shiv Sena leader Bhanu Pratap said that ‘it is a matter of great shame that the religious sentiments of the Hindu society have been hurt. A few days ago, the head of a cow was found. In that case also, the accused have not been caught yet.’

3. Hindu leader Amit Kaundal said that temples are being attacked in Punjab every day. In the name of action, the Police only give a ‘lollipop’ (assurances). Ahead of the festival of Shivaratri, this incident has hurt the Hindu sentiments.

4. Hindu leader Rushabh Kanaujiya accused the administration of sleeping like ‘Kumbhakarna’.

5. The same temple suffered damage when a truck crashed into it five months ago. The temple committee had repaired the damages.
