Bangladeshi Hindus living under terror after Shriram Temple inauguration in Ayodhya

Hindus accuse Sheikh Hasina Government of being a mute spectator

Dhaka (Bangladesh) – Since the pranapratishtha of Shriramlalla’s murti in Shriram Temple in Ayodhya, numerous devotees from India and abroad have been visiting for Darshan. However, it has come to light that no one dared to come to Ayodhya from Bangladesh, a neighbour of India. This reluctance stems from recent events during the general elections held in Bangladesh a few days ago, where Hindus were attacked. The Hindu community in Bangladesh is apprehensive that if they travel to Ayodhya to take Darshan of Shriramlalla, they may become targets of violence.

In this regard, Ruidas Pal, who is working in Dhakeshwari and Ramna Kali temples here, shared, “The atmosphere here has been unsettling after 22nd January. I am concerned about the safety of my wife and daughters. I cannot travel to Kolkata to meet my relatives.”

Editorial Perspectives

  • Although Bangladesh has not declared itself as an Islamic country, its majority of Muslims are committing genocide against Hindus. The Indian Government never sought accountability either from Pakistan or Bangladesh for Hindu genocide. When will the Government raise its voice in support of Bangladeshi Hindus ?
  • Although Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has close ties with India, she does not seem to protect the Hindus there. Please note that Hindus have no use for such ties !
  • The Hindu population in Bangladesh is tiny, and it has always been vulnerable – Ramen Mondal, General Secretary, Dhakeshwari Temple
  • Many religious fanatics are threatening that if they come to power, they will demolish temples and build mosques, but the Government is silent – Meghmallar Basu, Student Union activist

Maulana did not allow the procession on the day of pranapratishtha

Ramna Kali Temple President, Utpal Saha, said, “On 22nd January, when the pranapratishtha of Shriramlalla’s murti was being performed in the Shriram Temple, the maulana issued a threat preventing the procession. Hindus here were afraid that their temple or house would be set ablaze. ‘Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Party’ harbours significant animosity towards Hindus in Bangladesh. Destroying Hindu temples is common for them. Such a grand temple was built in India but being a Bangladeshi Hindu and being the president of a temple here, I am afraid. The residents here still remember the attacks and violence against Hindus following the Babri demolition in 1993. This is the situation during Awami League’s Government, what will happen if the opposition comes to power ?”
