Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan stages roadside protest after SFI activists show black flags

Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) – Kerala’s Governor Arif Mohammad Khan staged an agitation protesting the black flag demonstration by the ‘Student Federation of India (SFI)’ in Kollam District of Kerala. On 27 th January, the Communist Party’s student wing showed black flags to the Governor’s convoy. Displaying his opposition to this, the enraged Governor requested for a chair from a shop and began his agitation right there. He said that he would not move and accused the Police of giving protection to the SFI members.

An earlier attempt to attack the Governor

There has been an ongoing dispute between the Governor and the Chief Minister of the Communist Government, Pinarayi Vijayan, about some appointments in Kerala University. The ‘Students Federation of India’ has been opposing the Governor in this matter. Last month some members of this organisation had attempted to attack the Governor. The Governor had alleged that the Chief Minister himself was behind this attack. The Governor and the Chief Minister did not accept each other’s wishes on Republic Day

The same thing was seen on the Republic Day when both the Governor and Chief Minister did not accept the other’s wishes. On 25 th January, the Governor left without completing his address to the Kerala Budget Session. This angered the Ministers of the Vijayan Ministry and they expressed their displeasure.

Editorial Perspective

The Governor of a State governed by the Communist Party has to face such a situation, indicates that democracy is in danger. The Union Government should take note of this incident and demand an explanation from the Kerala State Government !
