Kochi (Kerala) – Sawad, who severed the right hand of a Kerala Professor T.J. Joseph for alleged blasphemy against Islam, has been apprehended by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on 9 th January 2024, after 13 years. A reward of Rs 10 lakh had been announced for information leading to Sawad ‘s capture. He had been evading capture since the incident on 4 th July 2010.

The NIA received information that Sawad was at Mattannur in Kannur District and arrested him after raiding his residence. He had been residing there for the past five months with his wife and two children.

Editorial Perspective

The efficiency of Indian security agencies, which took 13 years to arrest a criminal, is indeed questionable.
