Sudanese Muslim student arrested for attempting to convert two boys in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar – Osama Ali Yusuf Ahmed (23), a second-year commerce student at Maulana Azad College in the area, was apprehended for trying to convert two Class X boys. The City Chowk Police arrested him on 22nd December in connection with this incident. The Court has granted four days of Police custody. Osama hails from Sudan and, shockingly, has not attended college for a single day.

A 15-year-old boy from Hadko Shiv Chhatrapati Nagar, studying in Class X, his father is employed at Bajaj establishment. On the evening of 21st December, after dinner, the boy was outside with his friends when Osama, who was residing as a tenant in Sunil Lohia’s house, invited them inside.

Osama locked the door and commenced teaching them about Islam. He wrote something on paper and ignited it on the stove, offering them the smoke that emerged. This frightened the boys, prompting them to flee from the house.

‘The boys told their parents that Osama is instructing us on embracing Islam,’ following which they filed a complaint at the Police station. Assistant Police Inspector Shivaji Choure registered a case and subsequently arrested Osama.

Police Deputy Commissioner Nitin Bagate stated that whether Osama had any international connections is currently under investigation. In this regard, the State Intelligence Agency and representatives from the anti-terrorism squad are also conducting inquiries.

Not appearing at the college for even a single day in one and a half years raised suspicions about Osama. The investigation is exploring whether he was involved in orchestrating religious conversions. He has a partner who studies at Maulana Azad College. Letters and two travel language sets have been seized from the accused, said Assistant Police Inspector Shivaji Choure.

Editorial Perspectives

  • To prevent such incidents by religious fanatics in a Hindu nationalist Government, the State must make legislation against conversions.
  • It is infuriating that a Muslim from an Islamic country comes to India to study and attempts to convert the boys here. India should raise this issue with the Sudanese Government and strongly warn against such attempts.
