Even God will not forgive us for this act : Gujarat High Court

  • An unsettling incident of publicly discarding the remains of slaughtered cows
  • Orders District Collectors to submit a report

Karnavati / Ahmedabad (Gujarat) – “Innocent animals cannot be sacrificed for public comfort. Even God won’t forgive us for this act. This case is very disturbing, very shocking”, observed Gujarat High Court while hearing a case on cow slaughter in the State. The petition has been filed regarding the slaughter of 30 cows in Gujarat’s Nadiad District. The Court expressed deep concern over the disturbing photographs revealing the carcasses of cows dumped in an open land belonging to the Nadiad Municipal Corporation. In this case, Maulik Shrimali, a resident of Nadiad, has filed a contempt of Court plea. The Court voiced these concerns during the hearing of the plea. Instructing the Collector, the Court has mandated a comprehensive investigation into the matter, with a requirement to submit a detailed report.

In an effort to address the challenge of stray animals, the State Government housed the cows in cattle pounds. However, a distressing turn of events saw 30 cows being slaughtered, and the carcasses callously discarded in an open space.

Editorial Perspective

Even though there is a law against cow slaughter in some States, the occurrence of such incidents is shameful for the local Government agencies. It is necessary to hold the concerned parties accountable and punish them to foster seriousness about this matter.
