Idols vandalised in 4 temples at Mandar (Jharkhand); thousands of local Hindus block NH 75

Demand death sentence to the guilty

Ranchi (Jharkhand) – Incidents of vandalising at 4 Hindu temples have been reported in Mudma village at Mandar in Ranchi District. According to the villagers, the Idols of Shiva, Hanuman and a goddess were completely damaged in the temples. The incidents were noticed on the morning of 17th November and in a few hours, in protest, hundreds of Hindus including women with traditional weapons gathered on NH-75 around 6 a.m. and blocked traffic between Ranchi and Daltonganj, Police said, adding that roads were also blocked at Thakurgaon, Chanho and Bijupara.

Senior police officials including Ranchi rural SP are camping there to bring the situation under control. Heavy deployment of security forces has also been ensured to avoid any untoward incident, Police said.

Demonstrators demanded the arrest and hanging of the temple attackers. Tyres were burnt on the roads. The Police assured the people of arresting the guilty.

Babulal Marandi, BJP’s State President of Jharkhand, expressed grief over the attack on religious places. There was an accusation that the people of one community were trying to hurt the religious sentiments of the other community and demanded immediate arrests of the miscreants involved in the vandalism of Deities.

Editorial Perspectives

  • Had such a thing happened with religious places of non-Hindus, there would have been riots not only in Jharkhand but in the whole of India, a truth nobody can refute.
  • Jharkhand is ruled by anti-Hindu Jharkhand Mukti Morcha; therefore, it will be futile to expect any action by the State Government against people involved in vandalising Idols of Hindus’ revered Deities.
