AIIMS starting a ‘Department of Spiritual Medicine’ in Delhi

Opposition by some doctors in the hospital

New Delhi – India’s No. 1 Hospital, ‘All India Institute of Medical Sciences’ (AIIMS), Delhi will soon have a Department of Spiritual Medicine. A committee has been constituted for this and has been asked to submit its recommendations by the end of October. Along with spiritual medicine, transplant medicine and medical education departments are also under consideration. AIIMS has been organising programmes for the past few months with a focus on spiritual health. Now an attempt will be made to integrate Allopathy, Yoga and Meditation through this new Department of Spiritual Medicine.

Some doctors in the hospital have opposed the decision to set up such a department saying it is anti- scientific. A senior professor said that AIIMS’s decision is against scientific sense and will tarnish the image of a prestigious health institution. AIIMS has been advocating ‘Anti-science activities’ for some time now and now by creating such a department, ‘Anti-science activities’ are going to be officially recognised.

Editorial perspective

80% of the problems in human life are spiritual. Therefore, only spiritual science can give their answers. You have to do spiritual practice (Sadhana). The plight of the society is because sadhana is not taught in school. It is not surprising that some doctors who do not even know about spirituality oppose it.
