Srinagar (J&K) – Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Shah Faesal, who filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the abrogation of Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, has once again informed that he has withdrawn the petition. Earlier in September 2022, he had given a statement in this regard. A 5-member Bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud will hear all the 20 petitions filed regarding Article 370 on the 11th of July. Shah Faesal has explained his stance in this regard. However, the Court will also decide on 11th July whether to dismiss his petition or not.

Shah Faesal tweeted, ‘370, for many Kashmiris like me, is a thing of the past. Jhelum and Ganga have merged in the great Indian Ocean for good. There is no going back. There is only marching forward (sic)’. Earlier in February 2021, Faesal had said that he regretted his opposition to the abrogation of Article 370.

Who is IAS Officer Shah Faisal ?

IAS officer Shah Faesal, originally from Jammu and Kashmir, ranked first in the IAS examination in 2009. He resigned from his Government job in January 2019 and formed a political party in Jammu and Kashmir due to the so-called rise in intolerance. However, the Union Government did not accept his resignation. In August 2020, he announced his retirement from politics. After that, he wrote a letter to the Union Government appealing to join the service again. He is appointed as Deputy Secretary in the Union Ministry of Culture.
