A case of laundering black money
Chennai – The Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided the house of Senthil Balaji, Tamil Nadu’s Minister for Electricity, Prohibition & Excise in the case of laundering black money. On Tuesday, the investigating agency raided the DMK leader’s premises and took him for questioning. After complaining of chest pain, ED brought Balaji to Omandurar Government Hospital in Chennai for medical examination amid tight security on Wednesday. The arrest has been condemned by the ruling DMK party.
Raids were conducted on Senthil Balaji’s houses in Chennai and Karur, where his ancestral home is located. DMK representatives said “Balaji’s arrest is unconstitutional and we will fight against it legally. Our party is not afraid of the intimidation politics of the BJP in power at the Centre.”
Last month, the Supreme Court allowed the Police and the Enforcement Directorate to investigate Balaji’s black money case. The case dates to 2014 when Balaji was the AIADMK’s Minister of Transport.
