Govt offices in Punjab switch to new timings to saving electricity

Govt to save Rs 70 crore

Chandigarh (Punjab) – The Punjab State Government has decided to change its office timings from 7.30 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. The new timing is effective from the 2nd of May 2023. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has said in this context that such a decision was taken to save electricity. The changed timing will be effective till the 15th of July 2023. Mann said this decision will save 330-megawatt of electricity every day, leading to the saving of Rs 70 crore. This decision will help people to give more time to their homes. Power consumption is maximum during the peak hours i.e., from 1.30 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. but it will save electricity since the offices will be closed during that period. This decision will be applicable only to the Government offices.

Editorial Viewpoints

  • The AAP Government is taking steps to find a solution to load-shedding, but will it not affect citizens ? How many people will be able to reach the office in time ?
  • It is necessary to think about why AAP Government had to take such a decision.
