Midnight raid at Abhishek Banerjee’s residence

  • Action taken in connection with a financial scam case

  • Mamata Banerjee arrives immediately in support

Kolkata – A large team of West Bengal Police conducted a raid at the residence of Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee in Kalighat (Patuapara). The operation was carried out at 2:30 a.m. on 12 June. Police officers who arrived to conduct the raid reportedly knocked on the door of Abhishek Banerjee’s residence for a considerable time. When the door was not opened, the Police broke the lock, entered the house and conducted a thorough search lasting approximately five hours. During the operation, central security forces sealed off the entire area.

Upon receiving information about the incident, Mamata Banerjee arrived at her nephew Abhishek Banerjee’s residence in the early hours of the morning, further heightening tensions. Abhishek Banerjee said, “The Police broke the lock and searched the entire house. We have recordings of everything. Nevertheless, we will fully cooperate with the investigating agencies.”

The State Criminal Investigation Department recently interrogated Abhishek for 5.5 hours in connection with a forged signature case. He has been summoned again on 14 June for further questioning in the same matter.

Action taken following a complaint by a TMC leader

The action was reportedly initiated on the basis of a complaint filed by a local Trinamool Congress leader from Shalboni. The complaint alleges that Sumit Roy, a personal assistant to Abhishek Banerjee, was involved in a financial scam under the pretext of securing election tickets.

Editorial Perspective

Cases of corruption that took place during the tenure of the Trinamool Congress government are now emerging one after another. Therefore, the government should imprison such corrupt individuals and ban their political party!
