Rawalakot (PoK): Pakistani military guns down civilians yet again

  • 16 people killed

  • 30 people had already been killed three days earlier

Rawalakot (Pakistan-occupied Kashmir) – The Pakistani military opened indiscriminate fire with AK-47 rifles on thousands of unarmed protesters gathered at Eidgah Ground in Rawalakot. At least 16 people were killed, and 37 were injured in the incident. The firing took place while a peaceful protest was being held against rising inflation. Between 60,000 and 70,000 people had gathered in Rawalakot to raise their voices against the repressive policies of the Pakistani administration.

Earlier, on 9 June, clashes between protesters and security forces in the city had resulted in the deaths of 30 people and injuries to more than 200 others.
