Angry mob burns a Police Station in Bengal

A case of rape and murder of a minor Hindu girl by a religious fanatic

Dinajpur (WB) – The case of rape and murder of a minor Hindu girl by a fanatical Muslim on 21^st April in Dinajpur is still not subsided. People from the tribal and Rajbanshi communities were staging protests outside the Kaliaganj Police Station after the victim’s post-mortem revealed that she was not raped. In a fit of rage, they attacked the Police Station, beat up the Police personnel and burnt the Police Station. The video of this incident is going viral on social media. The Police used batons and tear gas canisters to disperse the crowd.

The Police had arrested a youth identified as Javed in the case of the girl’s murder. Four Police officials have been suspended after the video of the girl’s body being dragged by the Police went viral on social media earlier.

Taking the law into hands, can never be justified; however, the manner in which the Police handled the whole matter, caused outrage among the people. What is wrong if one thinks that this outrage led to the burning of the Police Station ? The Police should take some lessons from this !
