Young woman with Indian Tricolor painted on face denied entry into Golden Temple in Punjab

Indian Tricolor painted on the face of a young woman

Chandigarh (Punjab) – A video of a young woman with the Indian Tricolor painted on her face is being prevented from entering the Golden Temple by the temple guard has gone viral on social media. “This is Punjab, how can you paint the national flag of India ?”, said the guard while questioning the woman and the man accompanying her. On this the man asked, “Is Punjab not in India ?” In the video, it is also seen that the guard got angry and snatched the mobile phone from woman’s hand.

Although General Secretary of ‘Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee’ Gurcharan Singh Grewal has apologised for this incident, he has also backed the concerned guard. He said that since the flag painted on the face of the woman did not have ‘Ashoka Chakra’, it could not be the national flag. It can also be the flag of Congress or any other political party.

A controversy has started on Twitter over this incident. Spokesperson of ISKCON Radharamn Das has tweeted that the relevant Khalistani in this case should be immediately arrested. Just ignoring this incident is not the solution rather it will only increase the ego of these people.

However, some people have opposed and questioned the woman, is Tricolor something to be painted on the face ?

Editorial Viewpoints

  • This shows the level to which separatism has reached in Punjab. If the Union Government does not take strict action on all such separatists in time, the situation is more likely to get out of hand !
  • Everyone must have national pride. However, we should also be aware that painting the Tricolor on the face is an insult to the National Flag and a punishable offence.
