Supreme Court’s directive

New Delhi – Supreme Court (SC) has directed that the President of India will select the Chief Election Commissioner along with other Election Commissioners as per the recommendations of the special Committee comprising the Prime Minister, the leader of the opposition party, and the Chief Justice of SC.

It has also clarified that the leader of the biggest opposition party in the Parliament will be a member of the Special Committee when a leader of the opposition is not available. The SC had kept the verdict on hold after hearing the arguments on the petition filed in his regard.
