Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) – On 22^nd January, Swami Prasad Maurya, an OBC leader of the Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh, had kicked up a controversy by alleging that certain verses of Shri Ramcharitmanas insult a large section of society on the basis of caste and demanded that the book be banned. On 24th January, an FIR under Sections 153A, 295A, 298, 504, 505(2) of the IPC was registered against Swami Prasad Maurya.

On 29^th January, members of Akhil Bharatiya OBC Mahasabha burnt copies of Shri Ramcharitmanas written by the great Saint Goswami Tulsidas in the Vrindavan Yojana of the PGI Kotwali area of Lucknow. The OBC Mahasabha members announced their support to Samajwadi Party leader Swami Prasad Maurya through this detestable act.

Top seers from Ayodhya – Mahant Raju Das of Hanuman Garhi Temple and Paramhansa Das of Tapasvi Chhavni – have declared a bounty for anyone who beheads Maurya for insulting Sanatan Dharma and asked the BJP Government to take strict action against such leaders.

Burning of copies of a book in this manner will never destroy the thoughts propagated through it. A thought, if it has to be refuted, should be properly responded to only with a thought. There is immense divine energy in the holy scripture like ‘Shri Ramcharitmanas’; therefore, crores of people have faith in it and are devoted to it even after 500 years !
The Government should take cognizance of the incident for hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus and take necessary action against the concerned people !
