Tiruvannamalai (TN) – A camera was fixed on the face of a Deity here at the Arunachaleshwara temple. BJP party has criticised the state DMK Government’s (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam – Dravid progressive Federation) role in the incident. The camera was removed after the protests by the devotees.

There is the Deepam festival on the 5th and 6th of December in the temple which is expected to be attended by 30 lakh devotees. On the 6th of December 1992, the Babri was demolished. Because of this most Muslims and secularists in the country are observing it as a ‘Black Day’. The Police installed 55 CCTV cameras in the temple to maintain law and order. One of those was fixed on the face of a Deity of a Dwara Palak on the 70 ft Kattai Gopouram. When the devotees saw it, they raised objections. The camera was removed but the sculpture was disfigured. Thereafter, the officials repaired the damage done to the sculpture.

The DMK Government has no respect for the Idol ! – BJP

“A camera was nailed to the face of a Deity because atheists are managing the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department. No one in their right mind would do this. This is a planned action of the DMK as they want to please the minority by creating issues for the majority. Who is going to take responsibility for this vandalism ?” asked Annamalai BJP State President.

He further added “Ancient jewellery and ornaments of Deities are being melted and turned into gold bars, paving the way for corruption. The DMK is continuously disrespecting spiritual beliefs. It will neither be forgiven by the people nor the Deities. The training duration for temple priests has been reduced to a year from five years and it is condemnable”.

Editorial viewpoint

Would the DMK Government have dared to do this in a Church or a mosque ? It is necessary that the Hindus file a case against the Government for damaging ancient monuments, and the concerned individuals must be punished !
