Police lathi-charged students protesting against the suicide

Jalandhar (Punjab) – A student committed suicide in the hostel of Lovely Professional College in Jalandhar. The deceased, Agni S Dilip Kumar from Kerala, had a pre-suicide note with him. This incident happened on 20th September at night. After this, there was a protest by the students of the university. Students raised slogans against the university administration. The Police used batons to disperse the students when some students got injured. The dead student could have been saved, but the ambulance reached late, the students alleged. Then, students also demanded to make the suicide note public.

1. The Police wanted to take the student’s body to the hospital for an autopsy, but the students blocked the way of the ambulance. After many attempts, the ambulance took another route.
2. The Police officers were asking the students to record their statements. The Police assured that legal action would be taken against the guilty, but the students did not agree. The students said whose names are in the letter and those who have been found guilty should be arrested.
3. Regarding the incident, the university management said that in the student’s note found in the hostel room, it is said that he committed suicide due to personal reasons. The Police and administration are fully cooperating in the investigation of the entire case.
