Zinc phosphide is an extremely toxic chemical that can cause poisoning, organ failure and even death. A police officer deployed for security during the procession noticed Faiyyaz distributing the capsules and, becoming suspicious, took him into custody. The alleged plot came to light thereafter. One person in the procession who consumed one of the capsules reportedly began vomiting and suffered stomach pain.
Faiyyaz is a resident of Viman Nagar in Pune. Police are investigating whether anyone else was involved in the case, as well as the network behind the alleged plot, the digital infrastructure involved, and the source of the chemical substances.
