Some BJP workers and parents reached the school and alleged that Hindu students were being taught the Islamic Kalma during Urdu classes. This led to a commotion on the school premises.
According to the school’s principal, Aamer Khan, some Muslim parents had requested that their children be taught Urdu. Accordingly, an Urdu teacher was appointed in the new academic session. As construction work was underway at the school, no additional classroom was available. Therefore, the Urdu class was conducted in the same classroom where students of other faiths were also seated. As a result, some Hindu students also copied the Urdu letters into their notebooks.
He said that allegations by some parents that their children were being taught to offer Namaz were false. The children were only being taught the Urdu alphabet—Alif, Be and Te—and no religious practice or Namaz was taught.
The principal further alleged, “When the complaint was made, local BJP leader Vandula Balu arrived at the school with his supporters and assaulted me. I was slapped, and an attempt was also made to push me to the ground. The police, too, did not treat me properly and made me sit on the floor in my own office for a long time.”
