Relatives of the deceased youth allege that the police are suppressing the case

Sang li, Maharashtra –Durvank Shewale, a 19-year-old Hindu youth originally from Sangli who was employed in Pune, fell in love with a Muslim woman from Kolhapur. The two had decided to get married. However, the Muslim woman imposed the condition that he would have to accept Islam in order to marry her. According to his relatives, Durvank had been suffering from severe mental depression for the past several days because of this condition. They have alleged that he died by suicide as a result.

1. Durvank had come to Sangli a few days ago. A Muslim woman from Kolhapur, who is a relative of an elderly woman living near his house, used to visit her occasionally. Durvank became acquainted with the woman, and the two developed a romantic relationship.
2. After the balance on his mobile phone was exhausted, Durvank contacted the woman using his mother’s mobile phone.
3. The relatives alleged that although they showed the conversations between the two to the police, the police have not yet taken any concrete action or conducted any investigation. They have accused the police of suppressing the case.
4. The deceased youth’s relatives have not yet lodged a complaint in this matter.
