Chargesheet filed against terrorists 36 years after the murder of Sarla Bhatt in Kashmir

The terrorists abducted, gang-raped, brutally tortured and then shot her dead !

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir): The Kashmir Police have filed a 737-page chargesheet against the accused in the case relating to the abduction, gang rape, brutal torture and subsequent shooting death of Hindu nurse Sarla Bhatt in Anantnag, Kashmir, 36 years ago. Among the accused is terrorist Yasin Malik, the chief of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF). Yasin Malik is currently serving a life sentence in Delhi’s Tihar Jail in another case, while four other accused have died. Khurshid Ahmad Chalkoo is absconding and is believed to be in Pakistan.

On 18 April 1990, terrorists of the JKLF abducted Sarla Bhatt from near the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences. The terrorists had branded her a “police informer”. After the situation in Kashmir returned to normal, the police resumed the investigation into the case, gathered evidence and filed the chargesheet.

Editorial Perspective

This is a matter of shame for Indians and for all-party governments till date ! There are many such incidents in Kashmir that have either never been investigated or in which, despite chargesheets being filed, no one has been punished.
