Chinese military encroached into Arunachal Pradesh and occupied land, claims tribal community

Union Government remains silent

Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh): The Nah tribal community in Arunachal Pradesh has claimed that the Chinese military has encroached near the international border in the Upper Subansiri district. According to the community, over the past six years, the Chinese military has taken control of a large portion of their ancestral land traditionally used for cattle grazing, hunting and farming. A memorandum regarding the matter was recently submitted to the Deputy Commissioner of Upper Subansiri. The Union Government has not yet issued any response to the matter.

Keru Chader, President of the Nah Welfare Society, alleged that Chinese activity has been observed at five locations. According to the organisation, all these areas fall within the jurisdiction of the Revenue Circle in Upper Subansiri district. He said that the Chinese Government has been steadily expanding its control along the international border by taking control of strategically important areas.

Nacho MLA Nakap Nalo said that the issue is linked to national security and therefore requires official confirmation. The administration should officially verify these allegations. Since this is a matter of national importance, it has naturally given rise to serious concern.

China has built roads and military bases inside Indian territory

The memorandum also alleges that the Chinese military has built roads and military bases inside Indian territory.

Keru Chader said,

“We have complete faith in our armed forces. Our soldiers have been protecting our land for years; however, under the present circumstances, their efforts do not appear to be sufficient. Chinese military activity in the revenue areas has intensified. Their objective is deeply concerning. We fear that our ancestral land is gradually slipping out of our hands.”
