Chandigarh – Eight out of sixty girls of Chandigarh University in Mohali, Punjab, attempted suicide after their videos of taking a bath went viral on social media. One of these girls is in critical condition. These videos were made by a girl from the same university, and she sent them to her male friend in Shimla. He circulated the video on social media. Following this, there was a big chaos in this university. Students and their families have staged a protest on this matter. Police are looking for the person who circulated the video on social media. The girl who sent the videos has been booked. On the other hand, a large Police force has been deployed outside the university. Punjab Women’s Commission Chairperson Manisha Gulati said, ‘I will personally visit and see what the whole matter is’. ‘We will take strict action in this matter’, Education Minister Harjot Bains said.

1. All the girls whose videos went viral are MBA students. The accused girl had been making videos and sending them to her male friend for a long time. After the videos were shared on social media, the uproar started when one of these victim girls watched them.
2. When the lady warden of the university hostel questioned the accused girl, she said, ‘I have sent these videos to a boy. I don’t know that boy’. The accused girl did not tell the boy’s name and her relationship with him despite being asked several times by the warden. She was asked since when she has been making these videos, but she also did not answer this. She kept repeating ‘I made a mistake; I won’t do it again’.
3. After the bathing videos went viral, all the girls vacated the hostel and came out. They began shouting slogans like ‘We want justice’. The girls circumvented the entire university. Seeing this, the security personnel closed the doors of the university. The Police force was immediately called to the spot. When the Police tried to pacify the girls, they overturned the vehicles of the Police teams. The Police even had to lathi charge to calm them down. A large Police force was then deployed.
