Gold and silver kept in Himachal temples will be minted into coins, for devotees to buy

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) – In the 33 main temples in Himachal, there is 10 quintal gold and more than 160 quintals of silver. From that, 50% is going to be converted into coins and sold, as decided by the Himachal BJP Government. For this, the MoU needs to be signed with the MMTC. The Central Government has said that in the next 5 to 6 months the coins will be available.

1. Chintpurni temple located in Una district of Himachal has the highest amount of 1.98 quintals of gold, while the highest is 72.92 quintals of silver in Naina Devi temple.

2. Only 50% of the gold and silver kept in the temples will be minted into coins. 20% will be used for religious trusts and the development of the temple. Rest will be reserved, said the Secretary of the Language and Culture Department Rakesh Kanwar.
