Kolkata  – Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra has come under fire from across the country for her statement that “meat and liquor are offered to Shri Mahakalidevi” in support of the controversial poster of the ‘Kali’ documentary. Crimes have been registered against her in several places, including Uttar Pradesh, Kolkata and Bhopal. The Trinamool Congress has distanced itself from her statement.

Following the criticism, Mahua Moitra tweeted, “I don’t want to live in an India where I don’t even have the freedom to speak about my religion.” I do not want to live in an India where only the patriarchal Brahmanical vision of the BJP prevails. I will not back down from my statement until I die. You report the crime. I will meet you in every Court of the country. ‘

Editorial viewpoint

Offences against TMC MP Mahua Moitra started getting registered after her objectionable statement. Since she realised that she will be imprisoned as a result of her statements, she is making such baseless statements. She should be prevented from leaving the country and should be arrested immediately.
