Opposition nominates former Union Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha !
New Delhi – The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has announced the nomination of Draupadi Murmu, a native of Odisha and current Governor of Jharkhand, for next month’s presidential election. Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Chhattisgarh Governor Anusuiya Uikey were also considered by NDA for the post.

On the other hand, all the major opposition parties, including the Congress, have declared former Union Minister of Finance Yashwant Sinha as their presidential candidate. NCP president Sharad Pawar, National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah, and Mahatma Gandhi’s grandson Gopal Krishna Gandhi were in consideration for the presidency; however, all three withdrew from the race. Eventually, all the opposition parties agreed on Yashwant Sinha as their common nomination.
29th June is the last day for filing nominations. Voting for the presidency will take place on 18th July and the results will be announced on 21st July.
Who is Draupadi Murmu ?
Draupadi Murmu is a tribal leader from Odisha. Murmu, the 9th Governor of Jharkhand, was an MLA from Rairangpur in Odisha. She is the first woman leader from Odisha to become Governor. Earlier, she was a minister in the BJP-Biju Janata Dal coalition Government in Odisha from 2002 to 2004.
