PIL against promises to provide freebies to voters during the election period

Supreme Court issues notice to Central Government and Central Election Commission !

Editorial comment

Why does such a petition have to be filed ? Why don’t the Election Commission take cognisance of this and act against those involved ?

New Delhi – Political parties promise to give away many things free of cost or at low prices while luring voters during elections.

The Supreme Court, while hearing a PIL filed regarding this, has issued notices to the Central Government and the Central Election Commission seeking their response. The petition said that such political parties should be deregistered and their election symbols should be revoked.
