Centre instructs the Punjab Govt to be vigilant about the security of religious places

New Delhi – The Union Home Ministry has asked to beef up the security at all Gurdwaras, Temples and all other religious places in Punjab. Anti-national elements may try to incite religious sentiments in Punjab, warned the Home Ministry. May use places of worship to adversely affect the atmosphere of Punjab. Blasphemy incidents may disturb religious harmony in Punjab, the Government said.  Orders have been given to install CCTV cameras at all religious places and to deploy security personnel.  The Union Home Ministry issued the instructions after the two incidents of desecration at the Golden Temple in Amritsar and at the Gurdwara of Kapurthala in Punjab. At the Golden Temple in Amritsar, a man who tried to insult the Guru Granth Sahib (the Holy scripture of the Sikhs) was beaten up by a frenzied mob leading to his death, while in Kapurthala, a youth, who insulted the Sikh flag was also beaten up by the local villagers, later died.


The Additional Director-General of Police (Law and Order) Punjab has sent an action plan to all the Commissioners of Police and Assistant Superintendents of Police to beef up the security of all religious places. They have been ordered to take swift action if any irregularities are found.
