India’s partition on religious lines was a historic mistake : Defence Minister Rajnath Singh

Editorial comment

  • Patriots feel that India should rectify this mistake.

New Delhi – Speaking at the inauguration of Swarnim Vijay Parv, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh stated that the 1971 war was a reminder that India’s partition on religious lines was an “aitihasik galti” (historic mistake). Pakistan was born in the name of religion but could not remain united.

Rajnath Singh further said,

The Indian Army had thwarted Pakistan’s anti-India activities in 1971 and worked to eradicate terrorism. Since then, India has been working to stop the terrorist activities of Pakistan. We have won the direct war and we will be victorious in this proxy war as well.

It is rare in history that after defeating a country in a war, the winning country does not impose its dominance but hands over power to that country’s political representative. India did this because it is our culture. (Bangladesh, which was formed in 1971, was not another country, but was part of India, which was separated a few years ago. Its independence could not have existed after separation. Therefore, India should have merged it into India, which would have been appropriate in terms of defence.- Editor)
