Admiral Hari Kumar further said that when there was tension on the LAC, the Indian Navy had deployed warships in the Indian Ocean region. The aim was to give China a fitting reply if the situation worsened. China has been wreaking havoc in the Indian Ocean region since 2008. There used to be 3 to 8 Chinese warships in the Indian Ocean at any given time. The Navy is keeping them under close surveillance.
Appointment of women officers on warships
Admiral Hari Kumar further said that women officers have been posted on major warships of the Navy. An estimated 28 women officers have been deployed on 15 major warships so far. This number will increase soon. The Navy is well-versed in assigning various roles to women in the force and in delegating responsibilities to them. The National Defence Academy is working on a method to further train women.
