The Central Govt to repeal the three farm laws : Declaration by PM Narendra Modi

New Delhi – Addressing the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that the Central Government has decided to repeal the three farm laws. For a year, the farmers have raised an agitation to protest against these laws. ‘The farmers raising the agitation should return to their homes, start working in their farms and get into a new beginning’, said PM Modi.

PM Modi further said,

To strengthen the farmers, we honestly introduced the three laws in the country with the intention that the farm products get a better rate as well as to make more options available for their sale. It was demanded by many for several years. Even previously, this was processed by a few Governments. This time as well, we have discussed and introduced these laws. Many farmers in the country have welcomed them.

Today, I would like to thank them all. We introduced these laws for the well-being of the farmers, but even after taking sincere efforts, we have failed to convince some farmers of this. Maybe, there were loopholes or mistakes in our efforts. So, we have decided to repeal the three farm laws.

We had discussed with experts about introducing these laws. It was discussed in the Parliament as well, but some farmers protested against these laws. We tried to convince them. We continued the talks and tried to understand their opposition. We also showed our willingness to make amendments if necessary. We also proposed to cancel these laws for two years, however, the opposition continued.

Today, it is Gurunanak Jayanti, a Holy day. I don’t want to blame anyone. Maybe we lacked something in our penance, which is why we failed to convince the farmers, I think. Hence, the Government has decided to repeal the three farm laws.
