Editorial comment

The commendable decision of the BJP Government in Karnataka ! Hindus expect the Government to decide to hand over management of temples taken over by them to devotees !

Bengaluru (Karnataka) – The State Government has issued an order to perform ‘Gou-puja’ in all the temples under the aegis of the Endowment Department of the State Government.  Shashikala Jolle, the Minister of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department said that ‘Gou-pujan’ will be performed on the day of ‘Bali Pratipada’ on 5.11.2021 in all these temples between 5.30 p.m. and 6.30 p.m.

‘Gou-pujan’ on ‘Bali Pratipada’ is an important festival in rural areas. The custom of dolling up Cows and calves with ornaments, worshipping them, and feeding them is still observed in villages. It is said that Shrikrushna had lifted ‘Govardhan Parvat (Mountain)’ on the first day of the Kartik month and protected ‘Gopal (cowherds)’; therefore, ‘Govardhan’ and ‘Goumata’ are worshipped on this day.
