  • Such a high number of suicides makes it clear that the Administration failed to increase the morale of soldiers and solve their problems.
  • Will ever such soldiers with low morale fight the enemy successfully ?

New Delhi – Nityanand Rai, Minister of State for Home Affairs informed in Rajya Sabha that 680 personnel of the Paramilitary Forces committed suicide from 2015 to 2020. The deaths are from both Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Border Security Force (BSF). Additionally, the number of personnel who died due to accidents and martyred in encounters during the same period are 1,764 and 323 respectively.

The prime reason behind the suicides is said to be family problems, although financial problems and illnesses are also contributory factors in some cases.
