Government officials are descendants of Kumbhakarna – Grieves J&K High Court

Court rebukes for the pending road laying work for the last 2 years

  • Along with reprimanding, if the court starts punishing those concerned, only then the situation can change.
  • The Court has sarcastically remarked on the way the Indian administration works. How will such administration work in the public interests ?
Acting Judge of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Rajesh Bindal

Srinagar (J&K) – When Ravana’s kingdom was in trouble, he used various tactics to wake up Kumbhakarna from his deep slumber. Similar tactics are required to awaken the Government officials in Jammu and Kashmir. The Jammu and Kashmir High Court reprimanded the Government officials reminding them about their responsibilities. The Court was hearing a writ petition filed by the National India Construction Company, challenging the rejection of the bid submitted by it for construction of a road.

  1. In this context, the court observed that this is the situation in almost every department in Jammu and Kashmir No department could present its submissions before the Court in the cases against the Government. Even after contempt of court, they do not feel the necessity to submit the reply. There are innumerable pending cases for many years. This not only results in the loss of Government property but the general public is also deprived of development.
  2. Two years back, tenders were called under the ‘Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana’ in Udhampur District, for road construction work. The tender of National India Construction Company was rejected for which the company had filed a case, and got an interim stay. Since then, the case is pending and as usual, the department did not even bother to file an objection. The Court said, as the Government had done nothing, not only had the cost of the project increased.
