Hindu organisations demand banning an Assamese serial ‘Begum Jaan’ that promotes Love Jihad

The ‘Begum Jaan’ serial is about a Hindu Brahmin girl who marries a Muslim man

Had the plot depicted a Hindu youth and a Muslim girl in love, religious fanatics would have opposed it, therefore, no one dares to show such stories on television. Realise that Hindus do not even use legal means to protest against the stories involving Hindu girls and Muslim youth, that is why the television channels dare to show such serials.

Guwahati (Assam) – An Assamese serial on Rengoni TV named ‘Begum Jaan’ has created a lot of controversy as Hindus have alleged that it promotes Love Jihad and at many places, Hindus have protested against it. At some places, Hindus have filed Police complaints against the makers and actors of this serial. Hindu organisations in Assam have demanded a ban on this serial raising concerns that this serial could cause communal disharmony in the State. The ‘Begum Jaan’ serial is about a Hindu Brahmin girl who marries a Muslim man, because of which her family and society oppose her marriage.
