‘Grooming gangs’ also active in Germany, as in the UK

  • Minor girls sexually exploited after being lured with drugs

  • Pakistani and Syrian nationals arrested

(A grooming gang is a group that lures young girls or women into a trap and sexually exploits them.)

Berlin (Germany) – German police have arrested two Pakistani nationals in Nuremberg on charges of sexually exploiting women and girls and luring them into drug abuse. So far, a total of six people have been taken into custody, questioned and subsequently arrested. They include two Pakistani nationals and four Syrian nationals. In the United Kingdom, grooming gangs have sexually exploited thousands of girls. A large number of members of those gangs were of Pakistani origin.

1. The accused allegedly gained the trust of girls and women in the area around Nuremberg Central Station before drawing them into the drug trade. They sexually exploited the victims, got them addicted to drugs and then forced them to traffic narcotics. Police are now investigating the backgrounds of those involved in an effort to dismantle the grooming gang operating around Nuremberg Central Station. An investigation commission was constituted in May for this purpose.

2. In May 2026, police arrested two members of another grooming gang from an apartment in the Gostenhof district. Both are Syrian nationals aged 26 and 24. The 26-year-old is accused of supplying drugs to minor girls. The 24-year-old Syrian national has been found guilty in a case involving the sexual exploitation of minors.

Strict surveillance on nationals from Pakistan, Syria, Gaza and Serbia

In recent years, the investigation commission has focused on refugees from Syria, Pakistan, Serbia and the Gaza Strip. The suspects are between 18 and 35 years of age. Cases of sexual exploitation and rape involving children below the age of 14 and teenagers have increased sharply in the country. Investigators believe that the number of victims could be higher than previously estimated. So far, the authorities have not announced the final official number of girls or women who have fallen victim to the gang.

In recent years, organised grooming networks have come to light in several European countries, particularly Germany, Britain, France and Belgium. A common pattern in these cases is that the perpetrators first gain the trust of helpless, poor and vulnerable minor girls, lure them into romantic relationships, and then exploit them through drugs, threats or emotional pressure.
