UCC to be implemented in Bengal, says Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari

Kolkata (Bengal) – A Uniform Civil Code (UCC) will be implemented in Bengal on the lines of Gujarat, Uttarakhand and Assam. A committee has been constituted for this purpose, and the remaining legal procedures will be completed soon, Bengal Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari informed reporters. Detailed information about the Bill is likely to be presented during the ongoing session of the Legislative Assembly.

Editorial Perspective

Instead of introducing this law separately in each State, the Union Government should enact it across the entire country, as governments other than those led by the BJP are unlikely to implement such a law.
