Copenhagen (Denmark) – Denmark is considering imposing a nationwide ban on offering Namaz (Islamic prayers) on public streets and on the Islamic Adhan (the public call inviting Muslims to prayer).
Danish Minister Morten Bødskov said that officials will once again begin examining whether a legal ban can be imposed on offering Namaz on public streets and broadcasting the Adhan.
In some parts of Denmark, including Copenhagen, offering Namaz in public places is already restricted under stringent noise pollution regulations. However, the Danish Government is now considering introducing a stricter nationwide ban.
“The Adhan, which is traditionally broadcast five times a day from mosques, has no place in Denmark. The call to prayer should not be heard over Danish rooftops. There is no place for it in Denmark, and when you walk through this country, you should never wonder whether you have entered a neighbourhood in Islamabad,” Bødskov said.
The issue was also debated in Denmark in 2020 and again in 2025; however, a nationwide ban could not be implemented on either occasion.
