1,626 accused arrested
Government reiterates its commitment to making Maharashtra drug-free

Mumbai – Narcotics worth ₹254.53 crore have been seized in Maharashtra during the last four months. Between January and April 2026, 1,142 cases relating to possession of narcotic substances were registered across the State and 1,626 accused were arrested. A total of 3,199 cases relating to drug consumption were also registered, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis informed the Legislative Assembly while replying to various questions concerning drug mafias.
He also stated that the Government was committed to making Mumbai and Maharashtra drug-free. While presenting the figures in the House, he also responded in detail to the serious allegations levelled against the Police by Opposition members.
Chief Minister said,
1. Anti-Narcotics Task Forces are functioning across the State, including Mumbai. In 2025, these task forces, along with the Police, destroyed narcotics worth ₹523.17 crore.
2. The Government follows a policy of “zero tolerance” towards drug trafficking and sale of narcotic substances, and directions have been issued to take strict action even against Police officers and personnel found guilty.

Opposition members level several allegations
Sharad Pawar faction leader Jayant Patil alleged that the Police were collecting huge bribes and that narcotic substances were being supplied online. Leader Jitendra Awhad alleged that the drug network was operating in collusion with the Police. Shiv Sena (Thackeray faction) MLA Sunil Prabhu accused the Police of failing to take action against drug-related offences.
Jayant Patil further stated that drug trafficking had become a serious crime in the State and questioned what the Anti-Narcotics Department was doing. He also demanded that Police personnel be sent to ports outside Maharashtra where narcotics had been seized.
Chief Minister says guilty officers in narcotics cases have been dismissed from serviceReplying to questions raised by Opposition members, the Chief Minister said, 1. A high-level committee has been constituted to oversee anti-drug campaigns and awareness programmes. All Police personnel found guilty in such cases have been dismissed from service. 2. The Anti-Narcotics Task Force has been expanded and will be made operational in every police station. Efforts are being made to induct capable officers into the force. I will personally review reports relating to narcotics-related investigations every day. 3. Anti-drug awareness programmes have been launched in 3,000 schools and colleges in Mumbai. Rewards will be given to those who provide information regarding narcotics, and the identity of informants will be kept confidential. 4. Salim Dola, one of the key accused in the narcotics racket, has been arrested. A factory discovered in Satara was also owned by him. 5. Mumbai Police have conducted operations in various States and destroyed narcotic substances there. |
