Barabanki (Uttar Pradesh) – Cases of religious conversion through prayer meetings, love traps and the lure of marriage have now spread to rural areas of the district. Two such cases have come to light in the Ramnagar and Deva areas during the past month. The accused in both cases have been arrested.

In one case, an underage Hindu girl from Ramnagar was gradually indoctrinated and persuaded to agree to a court marriage. Thereafter, plans had been made to convert her religion. The Muslim accused in this case was arrested in time.

In another case, on 9 May last month, a married Hindu woman, along with her husband and mother-in-law, was forcibly taken to a house in Kasba Ichauli in Deva village and pressured to undergo religious conversion and nikah. Police arrested Maksud and Aman in connection with the case.

According to complaints received from time to time, similar incidents have been repeatedly coming to light in Safdarganj, Haidargarh, Kursi, Fatehpur and Ghunghter areas as well.

No negligence in such cases will be tolerated ! – Superintendent of Police

Superintendent of Police Arpit Vijayvargiya stated that such activities in the district are being continuously monitored closely. No negligence of any kind will be tolerated in matters related to law and order.

Editorial Perspective

Despite the existence of an anti-conversion law in the State, such incidents continue to occur. This indicates that Muslims do not fear the law and that Hindus lack awareness regarding the legal provisions. Therefore, the Government, as well as devout Hindu organisations, should undertake public awareness campaigns.
