Nepal does not want Britain to mediate in its border dispute with India

Nepalese Prime Minister Balen Shah clarifies earlier statement

Nepalese Prime Minister Balen Shah

Kathmandu (Nepal) – Nepalese Prime Minister Balen Shah has clarified that Nepal does not want Britain to act as a mediator in resolving its border dispute with India. A few days ago, he had called for British mediation in the dispute. He has now said that his earlier statement had been misconstrued and that Nepal wishes to resolve the issue directly through talks with India.

Speaking at a programme, Prime Minister Shah said that certain documents from the British period relating to Kalapani and Lipulekh are available. These historical records should be brought to light; however, that does not mean Nepal seeks mediation by any third party. Nepal will hold discussions with its neighbouring countries on its own and seek a solution to border disputes. All pending issues with India will be resolved solely through bilateral talks, he said.

Editorial Perspective

Nepal has deliberately created a border dispute with India. It should withdraw this false claim on its own.
