A separate ‘Sanatan Protection Board’ or committee should be established for temples across the country: Shankaracharya Sadanand Saraswati

Shankaracharya Sadanand Saraswati demands action following the theft of donations at the Shriram Temple

Chhindwara (Madhya Pradesh) – ”Devotees’ hard-earned money and their faith should not be misused. The alleged corruption committed by officials and employees associated with the trust is unfortunate. Government officials often lack adequate understanding of the Dharma, ethics and spiritual administration. Therefore, a separate ‘Sanatan Protection Board’ or committee should be established for temples across the country to oversee their administration and protection,” Dwarka Sharada Peeth’s Shankaracharya Swami Sadanand Saraswati Maharaj said while expressing his views over the theft of donations at the Shriram Temple.

The Shankaracharya further said that devotees donate their hard-earned money to the Shriram Temple with faith so that it may be utilised for religious and social causes. In such circumstances, incidents involving misuse or theft of donated funds are deeply distressing. It is even more painful when those associated with Sanatan Dharma and the service of God are themselves accused of such acts.

Experts should be included in the board or committee

Shankaracharya Sadanand Saraswati suggested that if a board or committee is formed for the management and protection of temples across the country, it should include knowledgeable and experienced individuals in the field. A person who is an expert in a particular area can perform that work effectively. One cannot expect the same level of efficiency from individuals belonging to unrelated fields. Officials do not possess knowledge of rituals, worship practices and related traditions. Nor do they have religious ethics or spiritual understanding. Therefore, responsibilities should be entrusted to those who are experts in the relevant subjects.

Religious conversions must be stopped immediately

On the issue of religious conversions, Shankaracharya Swami Sadanand Saraswati said that conversions must be stopped immediately because numerical strength carries significant importance in any nation. The group with larger numbers ultimately gains influence in governance. According to him, this is why conspiracies involving religious conversions and activities such as ‘love jihad’ are being carried out. These developments are a matter of serious concern. He added that neither the Government nor society is paying adequate attention to this issue, whereas Saints and Shankaracharyas are continuously working to raise awareness among the people. To curb such activities, the Government should enact stringent laws and take strict action.
