Iran was more eager to reach an agreement: Trump

Trump’s response after criticism from Iran’s Supreme Leader

New York (USA) – Following the agreement between the United States and Iran, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, issued a statement criticising US President Donald Trump. Trump has now responded to those remarks, claiming that it was Iran, not the United States, that was more eager to conclude the agreement.

What did Khamenei say?

Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, directly alleged that “the American leadership was desperate to secure an agreement and employed every possible tactic to achieve it.” After the signing of the US-Iran agreement, Khamenei told the Iranian people, “I was, in principle, opposed to this agreement. However, I later approved it after receiving assurances from President Masoud Pezeshkian and members of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council that the country’s interests would be safeguarded.”

Iran is finished: Trump

Responding to these remarks, Trump declared angrily, “Iran is finished. After the conflict, it was Iran, not the United States, that sought negotiations. We were not in a hurry. Iran was. The United States will not provide Iran with any financial assistance. They will not receive a single dollar.”

Editorial Perspective

Despite the peace agreement, the continued exchange of sharp rhetoric between Iran and the United States raises doubts about how long this agreement will endure.
