Even Hindu Dharma itself is not registered! – RSS Chief Dr. Mohan Bhagwat

Statement by RSS Chief Dr. Mohan Bhagwat on Karnataka Home Minister’s remarks regarding registration of the RSS!

Thrissur (Kerala) – The RSS functions openly and transparently. Discussions about registering the organisation are part of ongoing political debates, and we have become accustomed to such matters, said RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat while responding to remarks made by Priyank Kharge. Bhagwat stated that demands and controversies regarding the registration of the RSS began within 10 to 15 years of the organisation’s founding. In fact, if such allegations are not made, we feel as if something is missing. He noted that the RSS was established during British rule. Even Hindu Dharma itself has never been formally registered; There are many such things in the world that have never been registered. Registration is required for those who seek funds or financial assistance from the government. Kharge had earlier said that the Karnataka Government is considering legal measures to make formal registration mandatory for organisations such as the RSS.

Key points made by the RSS Chief

1. The government is fully aware of the RSS’s existence!

Bhagwat said that the government is fully aware of the existence of the RSS, pointing out that the organization had been banned twice in the past by the government. Those bans were subsequently lifted following court orders and satyagraha movements conducted by RSS volunteers. The very fact that the organization had been banned demonstrates that the government has always been aware of its existence. Such political issues keep arising from time to time.

2. People already know who we are and what we do!

In the past 100 years, no one had insisted that the RSS must be formally registered. The Constitution of the RSS is available with the government and the same had been submitted as early as 1950. At that time, the government could have said, ‘Register your organisation first and only then will we accept your constitution’; but it did not do so. Then why should I respond to this now? This issue is purely political and there is absolutely no need to take this letter seriously.  This is being done with the intention of creating doubts in the peoples’ minds; But that is impossible; because people already know who we are and what work we do.
