Dehradun (Uttarakhand) – The Police have so far arrested Imtiaz, Razzak, Salman, Javed and Shahbaz in connection with the murder of BJP leader Vinod Kashyap in the Bairagiwala area of Vikas Nagar in Dehradun district. Seven other Muslims are absconding. The murder was committed over a dispute regarding irrigation of the fields and financial dealings.

Violence by an angry mob after the murder: More than 25 Muslim families flee their homes

After the killing of Vinod Kashyap, a large-scale violence by an angry mob took place on June 14. Some set fire to the houses of 2 Muslim accused. Stones were thrown at the Police. In response the Police lathi-charged and dispersed the crowd. Some vehicles were also burnt during this violence. It is being said that after the violence, more than 25 Muslim families left their homes and fled the area. The local mosque has also been locked. On the other hand, on the orders of the District magistrate One house and two shops belonging to the accused have been completely demolished using bulldozers.

The BJP Government should ensure that such accused are tried in a fast-track court and awarded the death penalty!
