Home Minister Amit Shah

New Delhi – Union Home Minister Amit Shah has directed senior officials to study demographic changes in border districts. He issued these instructions while speaking at an important meeting on demographic shifts. He also instructed officials to visit border regions, metropolitan cities, and industrial cities assess the situation on ground. Earlier, on 5 June, Shah had stated that demographic changes in the states of West Bengal, Tripura, and Bihar would not be tolerated. He also noted that the Union Government is taking necessary steps to remove shortcomings in the security of the country’s borders.

‘Smart Border’ project in final stage

Stating that the Union Government is committed to strengthening surveillance and security along international borders, Shah emphasised on increasing use of modern technology in border management. While interacting with personnel of the Border Security Force at the Lankamura border outpost in Tripura, he informed them that the ‘Smart Border’ (Advanced Border Security) project has reached its final stage. The project will be implemented on a pilot basis at seven to eight locations across the country and will involve coordinated participation of advanced technology systems, local administrations, and border security forces. Shah stated that, in addition to making border security more effective, the authorities would closely monitor demographic changes in border regions as well.
